HPA was a voluntary partner in the development of European Environment and Health Information System and was the portal for the upload of information into the system for England and Wales. The Agency has also been tasked by the Interdepartmental Steering Group on Environment and Health to lead in the development of a Children's Environment and Health Action Plan for the United Kingdom. This includes developing a toolkit of a core set of environment and health indicators to describe and characterise the burden of disease among children at a local authority level within Government Office Regions (GOR) of England and Wales. Furthermore, the agency is currently involved in a programme of developing health profiles within regions within England which will complement and contribute to UNIPHE.

   

Instituto De Salud Carlos III, Spain

Spain

ISCIII (Spain) has participated in many projects in the field of health information systems. Since 2001, they have been involved in WHO lead projects (DG Sanco funded) aimed at establishing an Environmental Health Information System (ECOEHIS and ENHIS). The Institute will bring a plethora of knowledge to the project and their experience in environmental health indicators and information systems is unique but vast in Spain.

   

National Institute of Public Health, Romania

NIPH is Romania’s technical and professional forum for developing and supporting health policies and strategies. The Institute participation in ENHIS included: drafting and reviewing policy papers based on indicators in the framework of project; selection of indicators; and the development of indicators’ methodological guidelines and fact sheets.

   

Centre for Health Education and Disease Prevention, Lithuania

Lithuania

SMLPC is responsible for the development of methodological guidelines for environmental health activities for designated national, regional and local institutions. The institute is involved in developing environmental health legal acts and providing advice to the Ministry of Health on different environmental health related policy issues. Importantly, VASC has developed national acts on the list of environment health indicators and procedure for data collection. They have participated in the development of environmental health indicators methodology for Europe (coordinated by the

WHO/Euro); carried out feasibility and piloting testing of proposed environmental health indicators; participated in the ENHIS2 project developing the core set of indicators and retrieving data; and is responsible for development of national fact-sheets.

   

The NRW Institute of Health and Work, Germany

Germany

The NRW Institute of Health and Work (LIGA.NRW) has advising and supportive tasks for the state government, the authorities and bodies as well as the municipalities of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) on issues of health, health policy and health and safety at work.

The institute’s areas of activity range from health policy to prevention and the health promotion, innovation in health, operational health management and the healthy design of working conditions as well as drug safety and surveillance, protection against infection and hygiene.

   

National Institute of Environmental Health, Hungary

Hungary

NIEH is the core scientific research basis of environmental health and settlement hygiene in Hungary. The Institute investigates the exposure to, and health effects of factors of the natural and built environment, the nature and extent of health risks, and develops methodologies for studying those factors. It scientifically establishes those environmental health requirements by which environmental harm and health damages can be prevented, and provides recommendations for building a healthy environment. Current research topics include relationship between outdoor and indoor air pollution and respiratory diseases in children; relationship between weather variables, air pollution and daily mortality; elaboration of a surveillance system for water-borne diseases; the role of environmental factors with special regard to cancer. They have been involved in the planning and development of NEHAP and also participated in ENHIS.

   

National Institute of Public Health, Slovenia

Slovenia

IVZ RS has participated in a number of international and national in the field of public health. The Institute has also participated in ENHIS, selection and developing the core set of indicators and retrieving data. Currently they are involved in the development of Slovenian CEHAP and capacity building on Children’s Health and Environment (CHE).
